New business: New Flying Site? It was discussed that CORCS should be proactive in the search for a new flying site, as the OU land we currently occupy is prime real estate and OU is bound to develop something on it sooner or later. The pros and cons of buying a patch of land versus leasing were discussed. Land around Norman is generally expensive and to find something affordable we may have to look further away from town.
What is affordable? What can we afford? The subject of donations for purchasing land was also discussed. It was decided that it would be better to take pledges for contributions rather than contributions themselves.
In the end, Gerry Church moved that Scott appoint a committee to study our options, research available real estate, talk to realtors, etc. Anyone wishing to volunteer to serve on this committee can contact Scott.
The event schedule for this year was discussed and will be presented at the next meeting.
Show and Tell:
Jerry Short showed a PBY Catalina he is building. It will have retractable pontoons on the tips of the wings. It is an “ARF” but in reality more of a kit than an ARF.
Gerry Church told of his Cox warbirds that he has been flying. Small electric, $20 planes, potential as club pylon racer.
Model of the Month Winner:
Jim Farris - Patty Wagstaff Extra 300, bought from Andy Fracica who had crashed it. Major rebuilding job by Jim, flies like new, powered by a Super Tiger 3250.
